Chasing warm thermal winds far up the coastline to one of our favorite Lake Michigan locations, many of our kiteboard students make a weekend of it and bring friends or significant others along for the adventure.

On a beautiful sunny morning, our first lesson was one of our continuing students who had brought along his girlfriend. This beginner was young, in excellent shape, yet would still do anything to get out of pumping his kite.

From the other end of the beach setting up for the day, we saw our rookie’s girlfriend, not him, pumping his kite! When asked, she assumed her boyfriend was indoctrinating her into the sport too. We suggested this might be laziness and said that if she allowed this to continue, she was destined to become known as his “kite bitch”.

In that very moment, our student approached, and his girlfriend turned to him and said…
